What To Wear In Italy:
FALL/AUTUMN
I’ve noticed throughout the years that when people travel they go kind of crazy. And why not? You’re free from the pressures that you face at home. I’ll admit that when I moved here I went off my rocker now and then. However, being abroad is not a good time to practice dressing like a cast-member of Pretty Woman. The English speaking countries are famous for their (bad) style. American woman are by far the most famous for their inability to wear weather-appropriate clothing. You’re in a Catholic country. When you think, “Oh dang I look sexy,” everyone else thinks, “oh, Jesus Christ, Santa Maria Mamma Santa, what the hell is she doing?” This also applies to men who are famous for looking homeless, lazy, and Homer-Simpson-ish. “I want to meet a hot Italian woman!” I’m sure you do but it’s not going to happen in a basketball jersey.
Buy these pieces, mix and match, and you’ll find a guy who doesn’t have a criminal record. Other Tips: Match your purse with your shoes. Sport a scarf year-around, and don’t go anywhere without big glasses.
- This is a perfect casual, day, evening or going-out outfit (depending on what you’re doing, obviously).annagoesshopping.com
- Going out on a date? Bam, here you go. Remember your spare pair of ballet flats in your purse though. Cobblestone sucks.lolobu.com
- This is THE casual outfit. You’ll see this day and evening depending on what the lady is doing. It’s comfortable, it’s fashionable, and it’s warm. Please, don’t try an obnoxious American variation of this using pink, purple, or some other ghastly color. Keep it neutral and my eyes will thank you for it.damselindior.com
- Another perfect casual or evening outfit. The heels make it great for a night out with friends, but it’s casual enough to rock in the day without looking over-dressed.imagebam.com

Giovanna! Cara mia! Grazie!
After living in Italy for more than 25 yrs, my fashion advice is…..BLACK, BLACK, BLACK and more BLACK!
Not for me it isn’t! Wear what you LOVE to wear, unless you have a job that forces you to wear something else – including boring black.
We’re coming to Italy in May 2016 – Venice & Sorrento. What would be the best capsule wardrobe? Are skinny jeans or flares the best option? Thanks for all your suggestions!!!
Janet, skinny jeans are always in, in Italy. You’ll want to bring layered outfits since the days can get warm but the nights are still rather cold and it rains often in May. Usually, comfortable but trendy shoes include boots of any kind, often worn with skinny jeans, long loose sweater, jacket and scarf. Don’t forget the large sunglasses. And, match your purse to your shoes. 😉
