Misty On Friendship: Another Reason People Don’t Talk To ME

written by M.E. Evans January 15, 2013

It’s not that I’m entirely anti-social, it’s more like I intensely dislike and refuse to participate in small-talk for any extended period of time. The weather is great, we both have jobs, how fun that you too completed college, please, god, let’s be done. It’s often not a choice, I literally fade away and stop paying attention after about 30 seconds of “shit we mutually don’t care about”.

With that said: I do understand that professional/work relationships are different, however, in a social situation I find it ridiculous to put so much energy into profusely boring each other to death.

If you’re out talking with new people, having a drink, and you say something non-small-talky and it offends, that person was never meant to be your friend anyway. I don’t see the purpose of being completely superficial and hoping that the other party will find you charming. Who.fucking.cares? The way I see it, if you’re not building anything substantial, you’re only gaining an army of people who find you “charming” which, realistically, will cause future agony when, from there on out, you have to continue to uphold your charming bullshit. Unless you have a superficial personality and you’re the kind of person who loves talking about work and the weather. Then, good for you. If you’re not, you’re not gaining anything by being dull.

In reality, being yourself is simply the act of weeding out those who’ll waste your time and bore you in the future.
